Holding Space
Holding space means accompanying you in your journey.
I don't chime in, give advice or assume past experiences similar to yours make me wise.
I know you have all the answers in you. You are bursting with inherent value and wisdom.
I use my skills so you can access those parts of you that may have been silenced for some time.
I listen with care and curiosity.
I skillfully reflect back what you share, so you see it from a different perspective and decide what you want to do.
I ask thought provoking questions that can lead to learnings and welcome shifts in your way of thinking.
My coaching story
Aged 25 I was confused, frustrated and exhausted by my own emotions. Looking for answers, I read Period Power by Maisie Hill. Soon after, I came off the contraceptive pill after almost 12 years and set out to better understand my emotions through my menstrual cycle. ‘Easy-peasy’, I thought: I’ll learn about my hormones, track my cycle and then I’ll understand why I’m an emotional yo-yo. Sometimes feeling great, sometimes low and sometimes frustrated and lonely and teary. (A fun combo!)
Of course, it didn’t work out like that. Due to having PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) my menstrual cycles are long and unpredictable. The math didn’t work out even though I desperately wanted it to. I couldn’t ‘blame’ my cycle for the feelings I was experiencing. However, over time, through learning, reflection and professional support including being coached in Maise Hill’s membership program, I slowly learned to practise acceptance. I worked on accepting my emotions and my reality and creating change from a compassionate place. I started listening to the messages and wisdom my body has to offer me. I focused on noticing my thought patterns and separating the ones that were helpful and the ones that needed reassessing.
I learned it’s ok to not have all the answers and it’s ok to get support and ask for help. That prioritising myself actually allows me show up as a better human in life and in all my relationships. It isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to go perfectly. You get to practise self-compassion and experience the positive change it has on your life.
I fell in love with coaching and 4 years later I graduated as a Life Coach with BYCA, Beautiful You Coaching Academy.
